Solder

Being able to solder effectively is essential for electronics work with soldered connections.

Soldering Tips

Always use a low wattage soldering iron 25-40 watts. Make sure you tin the tip of the iron.

To solder, heat the connection for a few seconds, then with the iron still in place, apply the solder.

Allow solder to flow around and through the connection before removing the iron. Don't use too much solder, or move the connection before the solder cools.

Respect the iron! Always clear the tip after usage with a sponge or damp cloth.

The tip of the iron is hot and it can burn. Do not try to flick excess solder off the iron either as this is hot and can land on you.

Keep the iron unplugged when it's not in use.
